The Pope's Area
- The Pope will be staying in a renovated area on the first floor
of the Morrow Park Motherhouse.

say Mass, as well as pray with the Sisters.
- Minor renovations have been done to accommodate the needs of
the Pope.
Morrow Park and the Sisters of St. Joseph
- Morrow Park opened in 1960 at 3379 Bayview Ave., in northern
Toronto.
- The property was donated to the congregation by Frederick Morrow.
The site has an infirmary, retreat centre, residences and a Catholic
girls' school, St, Joseph's Morrow Park Catholic Secondary School.
- Before 1960 the Morrow Park location was undeveloped forest
land.
- The previous Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Joseph was at
Bay and Wellesley, but the current location offered room for needed
expansion.
Frederick Morrow
- Frederick Morrow was born in Ontario in 1886. He was a financier
who founded the Essa Securities Company and amassed a large fortune
during his lifetime. He was also on the board of St. Joseph's
Hospital, operated by the Sisters of St. Joseph.
- In 1944 he created the Morrow Foundation to distribute money
for charitable purposes.
- Morrow was the first president of the Morrow Foundation. He
requested that the Sisters of St. Joseph sit on the board of the
foundation. Two sisters have been presidents, including Sister
Margarite Walters, the current president.
History of the Sisters of St. Joseph
- The congregation was founded in 1648 in Lepuy, France, by six
women and a Jesuit priest. What unites the Sisters through time
is the desire to 'commit to God all that we are and all that we
are capable of becoming, in readiness to be sent, as Jesus was,
in the service of others.'
- The four first Sisters of St. Joseph arrived in Toronto in 1851
in order to take care of an overcrowded orphanage on what is now
Jarvis St. among the typhus and cholera-stricken poor.
- The Sisters of St. Joseph have been involved in founding many
hospitals in the Toronto area, such as St. Michael's, St. Joseph's,
Our Lady of Mercy, and the House of Providence. They have also
founded homes for the aged.
- Health facilities have been founded by the Sisters in many areas
in Canada, including Winnipeg and British Columbia.
- They have also been highly involved in education in the Toronto
area, including St. Joseph's College, St. Joseph's College School,
St. Joseph's High School Islington, and Morrow Park High School.
- Many Sisters have also taught at the University of Toronto where
they operate a women's student residence.
- In recent years, the Sisters have reached out in new ways, founding
missions in developing countries, becoming involved in pastoral
activities and through Nazareth House, a transitional home for
women founded in 1985.
- The Sisters are also currently building a drop-in centre/low-income
housing building for single women that will build on outreach
programs that are run at Mustard Seed, a nearby community services
centre.
- There are 205 sisters in the congregation, at their maximum
they were between 600-700 sisters.
