Darlene: "I'm downtown today at Nathan
Philips Square in celebration of that wonderful event that's taking
place in 2002; the Papal visit to Toronto. There are hundreds
if not thousands of youth that have assembled themselves in downtown
Toronto, all of them coming from different parishes, different
cities, and different towns. People have come as far as the United
States! So we are really fortunate to have such an enthusiasm.
We know that the message is clear; the youth want a voice, the
youth want to deepen their faith and I'm really honored to be
able to be downtown today and to be able to share this segment
with our listeners this Sunday evening."
Darlene: "Polly, you are downtown Toronto
today. What can you say about the celebration that's taking place
for the WYD for 2002?"
Polly: "Well I think it is a preparation
for WYD and I think it is going to be a good sign of what's going
to be happening next year."
Polly: "I think it is a wonderful celebration
for all youths, for all nationalities, even all types of religions
and different backgrounds to come to together and celebrate our
faith. There will be a lot of interaction, also as well with the
concerts, with volunteer work and with meeting all other people,
I think it will be a good celebration. It will be a much better
next year when we all gather together and all youths from all
over the world will be together. It will be very exciting."
Polly: "Well, hopefully this celebration
and for next year will increase the faith of Catholics both in
Canada and throughout the world and also showcase our city to
the rest of the earth."
Darlene: "Being downtown, today I have
to say there is a lot of excitement; there is a lot of hype, music
is playing, youth are walking around, flags are being flown, and
people are really sharing their faith, their love their enthusiasm."
"I'm really excited about WYD coming next year because I
think it is so important for all the youth to unify together in
their faith and for all of us to see how other people believe
in God and how other people love God. I think it is so important
to see that because it strengthens your own faith and it strengthens
my own faith and that's why I'm here today."
"I'm really excited for the WYD because I think this is
such an important event. I mean we feel bad that we didn't get
the Olympics, but I think this is much more important to me. It
speaks to me because I'm young and the Olympics are just very
political anyways. Here, this is my faith reaching to other people,
and I'm really excited about meeting the Pope because he is such
a great man, he apologized about World War II, he tried to bridge
the gap between the Jewish people and the Christians and Muslim
people, and so I feel like I need to see the Pope and just give
him my respect and be in awe of such a great man. I'm really excited
to see the Pope especially."
"I'm really excited about the WYD coming to Toronto because
I think it is about time that Toronto has a wake up call and find
out that we have so much young Christians and Catholics. It is
time to get involved with the Catholic movements, that's why I'm
really excited about it."
"I'm really excited for this WYD because I went to the last
one and it was really good; everybody was happy, you got your
celebrating spirit and faith, and it just brings people together.
That's why I like it."
"I'm so excited about WYD because not so often you get to
say how much you love God and Jesus and how happy you are about
everything. This is such like wonderful moment where you get to
say: ‘I love Mary, I love Jesus', and that's why I love this."
"I'm very happy to be here today to be at the kickoff of
WYD 2002. Believe me, being in my forties it is nice to see the
young teenagers here bringing Christ and God into their lives.
I hope next year, with the Pope being here, more teenagers from
all over the world join together in prayer. It will bring all
of them closer to God in everything they do, every day of the
year, for the rest of their lives."
"I think it is great to see so many people my age coming
together and celebrating our religion, and I think that's excellent
that children are doing that around the world." |
